The Cambridge Male Chorus is pleased to announce that the inaugural winner of the newly created Bev Fraser Music Scholarship is Preston High School student Hannah Guenther.

This award — in the amount of $500 — is named in honour of Bev Fraser, a founding member of the Scroggins Male Chorus (now the Cambridge Male Chorus) and an active member for more than 50 years. Fraser made outstanding contributions over many years to the Cambridge Male Chorus and to the Cambridge music community.

Fraser recently passed and the chorus dedicated the scholarship in his memory. This annual award is to be given to a deserving, graduating Cambridge high school student pursuing the study of music at a post-secondary institution.

This year’s recipient, Hannah Guenther, is an honours student at Preston High School. Guenther has been involved in various school, church, and community vocal organizations and events, and is in the lead role in the school’s musical this spring.

Guenther has won a number of elementary and secondary music awards, and has recently been accepted into the community music program at Wilfrid Laurier University.

The award was presented to Guenther at Preston Mennonite Church on May 5 by Cambridge Male Chorus representatives during a concert by the Addison Women’s Choir.

The Cambridge Male Chorus is a Cambridge-based community choir which has been singing throughout the community and around the province since 1960. The choir rehearses weekly at Trinity Anglican Church in Galt and performs a number of concerts throughout the year. Interested new members are invited to come to a rehearsal Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
