The Cambridge Male Chorus is pleased to announce that the 2020 recipient of the Bev Fraser Music Scholarship is Galt Collegiate Institute student Cadence Vassey.
This award — in the amount of $500 — is named in honour of Bev Fraser, a founding member of the Scroggins Male Chorus (now the Cambridge Male Chorus) and an active member for more than 50 years. Fraser made outstanding contributions over many years to the Cambridge Male Chorus and to the Cambridge music community.
Fraser recently passed and the chorus dedicated the scholarship in his memory. This annual award is to be given to a deserving, graduating Cambridge high school student pursuing the study of music at a post-secondary institution.
Cadence has attended Galt Collegiate (GCI) over the past few years and plans to become a vocal music teacher. Tiffany Moser, her Instrumental Music Teacher, believes this is an excellent path. Cadence possesses the drive, creativity, and self-discipline to achieve her goals, and her future students will be incredibly lucky to have her as a teacher.
During Cadence’s time at GCI she was involved with all three choirs, Galt Singers (concert choir), Raise Your Voice (soprano and alto choir), and the student-led Pop Choir, which Cadence co-leads along with a fellow grade 12 student. Cadence has worked hard to earn solos in each ensemble for our Music Nights, which showcase the talents of our music students for their families.
Additionally, Cadence has shown strong leadership and organizational skills through her work with Pop Choir. Cadence is already showing confidence in her teaching abilities by inspiring her peers with carefully chosen pop arrangements that are sung at school assemblies and our annual Arts Evening, which showcases all of the arts areas we offer at GCI.
The Cambridge Male Chorus is a Cambridge, Ontario based community choir which has been singing throughout the community and around the province since 1960.
Our rehearsals are currently suspended for the season due to the Covid-19 crisis., but we hope to be able to resume in September 2020.
The choir rehearses weekly at Trinity Anglican Church in Galt and performs a number of concerts throughout the year.
